Small Business Websites
Should Your Blog Live on a Subdomain or the Main Domain?
This is the practical, blog-specific version of the broader subdomain vs. subdirectory question, and for a small business blog, the answer is fairly consistent.
Why the main domain usually wins
If your blog lives at yoursite.com/blog instead of blog.yoursite.com, every article it publishes reinforces the same domain your homepage and service pages already rely on. That means the trust and relevance your blog earns feeds directly back into the rest of your site — exactly what a business blog is supposed to do in the first place.
When a subdomain might make sense
A separate subdomain occasionally makes sense for large publishers running very different platforms or content types than their main site. For a small business blog covering the same subject as the rest of the site, that separation rarely helps and usually just adds complexity.
The simple version
If your blog is meant to support your main business site — which, for almost every small business, it is — keep it in a subdirectory on the same domain. This site's own blog is a straightforward example of that setup in practice.
