What Is a Favicon, and Why Does It Matter?

A favicon is the small icon that shows up in a browser tab next to your page title, in bookmarks, and in a phone's list of open tabs. It's easy to forget it exists — right up until it's missing.

Why the missing version stands out

Without one, browsers show a generic blank page icon instead. Sitting in a row of tabs next to other businesses' branded icons, that blank placeholder is a small but noticeable signal that something on the site wasn't quite finished.

It's a tiny, quick fix
