What Is an Accessibility Statement, and Should Your Site Have One?
An accessibility statement is a short, plain-language page explaining your site's commitment to being usable by people with disabilities — not a legal disclaimer, more of an honest note about where things stand.
What it actually says
A typical statement covers your general commitment to accessibility, any standard you're working toward (commonly the WCAG guidelines), and a clear way for someone to report an issue if they run into one.
Why it matters beyond just being polite
It signals genuine effort rather than an afterthought, and gives a frustrated visitor a real channel to flag a problem instead of just quietly leaving. It can also be useful context if accessibility compliance is ever questioned.
It's not a substitute for actually being accessible
A statement with no real effort behind it — no alt text, poor contrast, no keyboard navigation — is just words on a page. The statement should reflect actual practice, not replace it.
